Clarrie .. Tignes. France . 2003
I spent 6 season working as a musician in the ski fields in France. I worked with my good friend Dave Wright. We were in a resort called Val D' Isere and Tignes. For 4 to 5 months a year from Dec to April we played music 5 to 6 nights a week and skied every day. It was really the ideal lifestyle for someone like me. I also got to spend a lot of time with my eldest son Woodie who was a profesional skier for 10 years. He competed in many Winter X Games in USA and Australia in the big air comp and the slope style comp. He was on the Salomon International Exrtreme Ski Team. For a long time he was the only Australian skier on such a team. He also represented Australia in the world Freeride Championships in Tignes. That comp was held on the same slope that the photo below was taken on. A "Freeride" comp is one where the competitors start at the top of a mountain and select their own way down the face. It involves taking big air off cliff faces etc.
The slope in the photo is definitely, "I don't want to fall" territory. A fall means a fall of 300 or 400 meters. This face is on a mountain called Grande Baume. I did see someone go down the entire face one time. Scarey stuff. This photo was taken by Woodie.
